Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks
1.0
It was an okay book, but not great. I've learned it probably isn't REALLY what it claims to be; the diary of a 15 year old. It was probably written to scare kids off drugs. I'm not sure how effective it would be at that, since the 'author' says over and over how much hse hates that she can't stop, but that it just makes you feel SOOO GOOOD!
In any event, it doesn't seem real. Supposedly there are undated entries found on paper sacks, etc, instead of written in the diary. But other than missing the date, the entries are too articulate to be the work of someone strung out on drugs. As far as letting a young teen read it, I'd be hesitant. There is a LOT of not so nice language, as well as scenes involving rape, prostitution, etc.
Even with all that, it would have been an ok book, had the author not chosen to write the 'epilog'. With all the millions of books out there waiting to be read, I would not recommend spending time on this one.
