The Wicked King by Holly Black

3.0

The second book picks up where the first one stopped--Jude must manage to navigate not only her court of spies but also the Elfhame court with virtuosity.

What I like about this series is Jude, her determination to become someone others would respect and her iron will. What I also enjoy is the fact that it's fun to read her story.

Apart from that, the series is mediocre, neither good nor bad, and the second book, while it had some ups and downs, was also forgettable just like the first one.

I would like to finish the trilogy but I'm pretty sure the reason I'm not so crazy about these books is the worldbuilding that resembles a fairytale. Thus, it's a bit weak and without any unpredictable plot points.

The book is more of a YA in its characters but more of an MG in its world and I don't think that a fairy world, if it's constructed almost the same as that in fairytales, is enough to hook my interest for long. Been there, done that as we say.
