The Murderer's Ape by Jakob Wegelius

5.0

Winner of the 2018 Batchelder award, The Murderer’s Ape by Swedish writer Jakob Wegelius is a great read following the story of a gorilla who has learned to read and write as she tells the story of her adventure. Sally Jones is trying to survive and figure out how to help her best friend after he is wrongfully accused of murder. Full of twists and turns, this book is an absolute delight and features amazing adventures across the world. This book would be a fun read for upper elementary students and middle schoolers, and it could have great applications on the mystery genre as well as how to keep a plot interesting throughout.
