The Dangers of Smoking in Bed by Mariana Enríquez

5.0

This was extremely evocative and scary in the most subconscious of ways. As someone who lived in Buenos Aires for a year and became acquainted with the city and the country’s politics and issue, this couldn’t have been more perfect for me. I would say only two of these stories feel actually political, the rest of them are still incredibly resonant and I loved how they explored fears that felt so close to everyday life and as if they could happen to any of us.

Truly terrifying in the best way possible and very accomplished. I read this in Spanish and the writing was so fitting for these type of urban horror.

Will definitely read more of Mariana Enrique.
