my favourite series ever. every time i think about this series, i either cry or smile. i love them so much.

characters:
Bryce Quinlan is now my favourite female character and I found it so easy to connect with her which I find hard to do with some female main characters. In this book we follow her grief and trauma and it's dealt with in such a captivating and interesting way. Bryce's closure at the end of the book was beautiful and so well written that it felt like you had closure as well. She's strong, funny, smart and has this 'no rubbish from anyone' attitude that draws me to her. she's a confident woman who's energy and vibe is so addictive that you could read for hours and never get bored right from the start. Hunt, rather than being the love interest who saves her, instead supports her, challenges and accepts her for who she is, which only enhances your reading experience of Bryce's character.

Hunt Athalar is such a interesting character to read as well. Unlike most other fantasy books, he isn't a high ranking/in high power position male character and is actually a slave. Of course he's still powerful (but has his powers dulled because he's a slave) which makes you focus on his actual character more. You experience him being controlled as a slave, and get glimpses of his traumatic past which tie in nicely to the plot as well. Hunt opens up and cares for Bryce and when she does the same, despite neither of them wanting to feel this way, it really gives even more depth to these two characters. the way they both embrace each others triggers and the way they support each other is so beautiful to read.

All the side characters bring so much to the story that you can't help but care and fall in love with each one.

Plot:
At the start, maybe the first 2 or 3 chapters, there is A LOT of world building however as the story progresses everything starts to fall into place and make sense. The different POV's (mainly Hunt and Bryce) with Ruhn also getting his POV now and then really helps the story flow, helps character development and stops you from getting bored. The actual story line was so hooking, there were definitely some twists I didn't see coming and when I thought they were over another twist would come and uproot the last, keeping you on the edge.

The world:
again another thing that sets this book apart from the rest is that its urban fantasy, the incorporation of phones and technology made it very very different and definitely adds to the story quality.

overall this book was amazing and definitely a new comfort book of mine, 800 pages of happiness, heartbreak, soul crushing, shock and so many more emotions. The characters, places, story, everything was so enjoyable and book 2 is going to be brilliant.
