The Sugar Queen by Tess Thompson
2.0
This was an odd read. It started off as something so very similar to another book... which was OK.
I think I just didn't get it. They were both so unfinished as people... the ensemble cast around them seemed to be a tick-box exercise.
I skipped over the letters, wasn't really interested in the past.
Her mother was just awful... and from what I can tell, was for Brandi's whole life. I hope she never talks to her again. And Huck? I guess he is being set up for a PTSD storyline... but what a complete prick.
So, it wasn't awful, I didn't not like it... but, for me, it was basically a just about OK read. Boring, slow and predictable... although the closed doors stuff was very refreshing!
