The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman

5.0

This continues with Lyra's story as she sets out on her quest to find her uncle and discover the importance of Dust but also pulls in Will's story as he tries to protect his mother from some mysterious men that keep appearing as if from nowhere. In doing so he stumbles on a window into another world, a world where there are no adults and the same world that Lyra has stumbled into. And so their paths cross and their lives become intertwined leading them both to make some big decisions that effects more than just the one world. Once again Pullman weaves a dark disturbing story drawing on the tradition of real fairytales where not everything has a happy ending and sacrifices must be made. And this book does not have a happy ending, leaving you breathless and wondering what could possibly happen next.
