The Sinner by Tess Gerritsen
4.0
This is the third in the Rizzoli and Isles series. I didn't find it as gripping as the first two in the series, mainly because it lacked a sense of urgency. However, Gerritsen manages to create a suspenseful climax with the murderer after one of the main characters (even though this happens in virtually every thriller!).
I was pleased to see that Dr. Maura Isles was the main character, as she had been mostly missing throughout the first two books. Her point of view was fresh and interesting in contrast to that of Rizzoli (though we are still treated to her p.o.v. as well). My only pet peeve with Isles is that she was far too involved in the policing side of the case - as an ME, I find it hard to believe that she would be part of questioning the nuns, etc. This does seem to be popular in books and movies of this nature though, with Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta and Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan doing much of the same.
I am very interested to read the next in the series, mostly because I can't wait to see what happens with Rizzoli. Her secondary storyline was interesting and her feelings towards what happened were appropriate considering how invested she is in her career. I can't wait to see where Gerritsen takes her, and to see more of the blossoming friendship between Rizzoli and Isles.
