I enjoyed this taut debut which was intelligently written by someone who obviously knows the legal world, without being a typical legal thriller.

Madison is finishing law school and struggling with how to help her brother who has been caught up in a drugs raid; making the wrong move could be career-ending for her.

When her hero, a female judge, offers her an internship, she jumps at the chance to learn from her, but also potentially to help her brother, but doubts about the judge's honesty quickly take over, and both women find themselves in danger.

Some of the decisions the main characters took made them hard to like in the true sense of the word, but this novel as a result ended up asking good questions about how far you'd go for family and what justice really is
