Hopeless is a book unlike any other. It’s a great read, emotional and tense, but very difficult, filled with heartache and trauma and strife. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

Sky lives with her mother Karen in her own little bubble. Cut off from all modern technology, and having been homeschooled her entire life, her mother is taken aback when she voices her desire to attend public school during her senior year. With her best friend Six off in another country, she’s on her own. That is, until she meets a strange boy at the grocery store and her life changes forever. She comes to learn things about her past and her life before Karen she had locked away long ago.

Sky and Holder form a connection in their hearts as well as their souls. Having each other by their sides allows each of them to not only grapple with true darkness, but find the smallest flicker of light inside it. It truly goes to show that a) it’s all about the family you choose for yourself, and b) it’s the people closest to you that can hurt you the most.
