Eyes of the Void by Adrian Tchaikovsky

5.0

I really love this series. A classic but imaginative space opera, I think this second book really improved upon the first. The pacing was great, the revelations well placed, and the conflicts from the interpersonal to the universal carefully interwoven. One thing I especially liked about this book is the many cases in which the central characters solve problems through avoiding violence rather than using it. Violence is never a fix-all and it leads to characters progressing the plot in more diverse and emotionally complex ways. That’s not to say there isn’t plenty of action and fights, but it feels less one dimensional than other similar space operas I’ve read. I’m very excited for the third installment.
