I love historical comics. I haven’t read many, but I find the true stories very enthralling, such is the case with The Butcher of Paris. It goes into the account of Marcel Petoit, a serial killer who was murdering Jews during WWII.

In this issue, we see Mr. Dreyfus, a Frenchman aiding Jewish people’s escape from Paris captured by the Gestapo. They then use him to infiltrate the resistance and bring them down. Little does Dreyfus know, but he ends up face to face with our serial killer Petoit. Across the street, a family notice a fire has started at Petoit’s residence, which leads the police to find his “monster’s lair.”

I like where this comic is going, although I found the timeline a bit jumpy. Was Dreyfus in Petoit’s house when the fire started or is that a flash-forward? It’s a little confusing. I think now that the base of the story is established, the second issue could prove to tighten up the timelines a little bit. I’m interested in seeing how the police solve this one and bring down this serial killer.
