This second installment fell flat after the first one. If you thought the first book needed a little more worldbuilding, then this one needed more as well as the story only got more complex with less explanation. What this book really lacked was the chemistry that made the first book fun and feel like an adventure. The lack of interaction between Safi, Iseult, and Merik throughout this book is just disappointing, yet it does leave the reader wanting more and will have me coming back for the conclusion.
Merik is hands down the best part of this book. Iseult and Safi both have their moments where they drive me crazy, both when they are admiring Safi. Aeduan is still a mystery, sort of, but I am curious to hear more of his backstory. However, the development of Merik and the story surrounding him definitely kept me captivated throughout.
