The Happiest Toddler on the Block: The New Way to Stop the Daily Battle of Wills and Raise a Secure and Well-Behaved One- To Four-Year-Old by Harvey Karp

3.0

As we prepare to add another small human to the family I grabbed this book for some quick insights on my two toddlers. Some of the material is repetitive and basic, but the principles are sound. I have seen a difference in my interactions with my children already.

Acknowledge your toddlers feelings before you try to express your own. Simplify your language. Give attention and praise throughout the day to build your relationship. Make sure your toddler gets outside. Tune in for a short playtime to prevent meltdowns. Be silly. Use social stories. Gossip about your child's good behavior in front of him. Set a routine. Role play. Give options. Create win win situations. Establish a bedtime routine where you praise your child for good behavior throughout the day.
