The Red Scrolls of Magic by Wesley Chu, Cassandra Clare

4.0

3.5/5!

It is no secret that I love the Shadowhunter world, it is one of my favourite fictional places. It is also no secret that I LOVE Malec so much, Magnus and Alec were always my two favourite characters in TMI and are just two of my favourite characters from the Shadowhunter series so when this series was announced so many years ago, I was hyped. Unfortunately, I didn’t love this book as much as I thought I would and as much as I truly wanted to!

Don’t get me wrong, reading Red Scrolls Of Magic gave me the same feelings that only Cassie books give me but at the same time, it didn’t really feel like a book from
the Shadowhunter Chronicles and yes I know, it’s about Malec and only Alec is a Shadowhunter so there’s isn’t as much Shadowhunter action as there is in other books but, it just didn’t fill me with the same sense of magic and there’s just this feeling that reading a book from The Shadowhunter world gives me and it just wasn’t as strong with this.

I’m not saying the book was bad by ANY stretch, this book was still amazing. The fight scenes were choreographed so well, Alec and Magnus definitely felt like Alec and Magnus. I think my main issue was that, as much as I do truly love TMI it is my least favourite of the series’ so, if this book had come out whilst those were coming out and I was reading those for the first time, I might feel differently about this book! But with the sophistication of TID and TDA, I just felt like this fell a bit flat.

But, like I said, I did still really enjoy this story and being in this world again! I also loved seeing these characters again and I am looking forward to the rest of the trilogy!!
