What We May Be by Layla Reyne

Tho the mystery of this book was at the forefront, it was very much about the romance between the three character as they navigate their history while dealing with a murderer, one that is very close to home, could even be the very person in front of them, and that's how the synopsis read to me, however even within the first chapter there was never a moment when I ever thought one of them could be involved, even without being in all of their heads. the mystery aspect did have some red herring but they weren't long drown out and I found the end result weird over being a surprising twist, it almost seemed the author was trying harder to trick us then really putting the killer into the scene
Spoiler(and honestly the last murder, made no sense that they kept them genderless without giving us a reason to understand why)
. saying this I am not a mystery reader; I generally find them boring so I’m not really sure I’m the person to really speak on this aspect. I did however find this pulled us along the story thought it was very clearly the pacing of the romance that had me hooked.

let's talk about the romance. I liked that it was second chance, it's one of my fav troupes, however even that was a little odd, the secrets even from us of who and why and what. I just found it confusing since by the time the story started everyone KNEW what was going on but us, so why the subterfuge, it didn't really give or take anything away from the book and overall felt like a conflict that never actually became. I found the chemistry was great through the story, more in later chapters then the first, and that they were very vocal about being poly and how others weren’t. I also liked that they were always open and accepted for who they were and the relationship they were in. Really glad it went that way, let it be a very accepted thing which is should and can be even if that’s not everyone’s norm.

overall I enjoyed the book, I do think you might want to read Fog City series, either before or after (especially Silent Knight *wink*) but it’s not really important to the overall story or the characters tho I have so hopes for the future.
