Sabriel by Garth Nix

3.0

Many of my illustrious colleagues (including BOTH of my doppelgangers) love this book with all of their many hearts. I thought it was good. There's a kick-ass young woman (somewhat reluctantly) taking on the mantle of power. There was a very well built world with two sides to the wall and two sets of cultural and techno-magical norms. I appreciated the grounding, and the detail given to the expectations of the Abhorsen. There's plenty of action and conflict. Maybe too much conflict for me-there were times that I just needed a minute to think, but Sabriel was already splashing through the next obstacle and threatening to leave me behind without even a candle. And everybody else seems to love Mogget....me? Not so much.
