The Words by A. Jade

emotional reflective medium-paced

5.0

The last thing I expected to do while reading was sob. The ugly cry sobbing that has tears streaming down your face long after you've passed the scene that had you crying in the first place. Phoenix and Lennon's story started out in high school. Both motherless, both being raised by their fathers. Only Phoenix got the short end of the stick. He had a father who resented his existence. Thank goodness for friends like Storm. The girls, the hurtful words, those things were painful but Phoenix's ultimate betrayal was the end of Lennon's rope. When she has the chance to put him in his place, she snaps the opportunity up. But she got more than she bargained for because the parts that Phoenix only showed Lennon? Those parts are what made her fall in love with him back in high school. Their road is not paved in sunshine and roses. The way they both broke apart, devastated with the state of their relationship...I felt that brokenness, the betrayal, the quest for forgiveness. The way he went for redemption? Sob... When Lennon loses the one thing she holds most dear? Phoenix stepped up big time. I was ready to forgive him myself for all the hurts. Ms. Jade broke me wide open, left me vulnerable, and pieced me back together with Lennon and Phoenix's story. This book is one of those that will have me thinking about the characters and the story for weeks to come.

I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
