The Vanishing Season by Dot Hutchison

5.0

I don't know what it is, but Dot Hutchison elicits a ridiculous emotional response in me. Every book of this series has been incredibly emotional, and that is *really* not the norm for me. I collapsed into a puddle of tears for the last three hours of this audiobook (ebook and audiobook on Kindle Unlimited). Not only are the crimes absolutely heartbreaking, but the closeness of the characters--I hesitate to say this because it's really personal--it really shines a light on the self-imposed loneliness that I've come to live with. The depth of what these characters feel for each other ... I really don't know if I seen its likeness before. The author has really created something special here.

On a less emotional note, the audiobook narrators, Will Damron and Jesse Vilinsky, were exceptionally good. The things that bugged me, though they were few, were that during some intense events, the author veered off into bouts of too much description, backstory, or explanation ... this certainly should not disqualify this story (or series) from your TBR list. Also, this has nothing to do with the author, but it's been a while since I'd read the other three books, so I didn't have the connection with the characters that I had upon first reading them and couldn't remember them well or the events that happened previously. It took me a while to reconnect with them. I really wish I'd reread the series before starting this one. I will, however, reread the series in entirety because It. Is. That. Good.
