The Familiars by Stacey Halls

4.0

“Fleetwood, your head is full of fancies. You speak as if we are in a play, all with a part to act. You and I have no role in the king’s justice. We support our husbands.”

I think I need to stop reading historical fiction about female characters (and motherhood). They tend to make me pretty angry.

This is a good book, and one of the better ones dealing with these themes that I've read. Fleetwood tries to do what she can, despite the constraints that are placed on her by society. Her character felt very real to me.
