An Orphanage of Dreams by Sam Savage

funny lighthearted sad fast-paced
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

3.5

Life may be a desert of tedium through which a river of dread cuts. Savage adds to it a smattering of misogyny that was unintended - simply a consequence of the series of protagonists who are mostly the same person passing through it, unable to interpret the hum of their wives' or girlfriends' TV-static-like chatter. Maybe the collection should have been 1 long poem.
