Racing Savannah by Miranda Kenneally

3.0

Honestly, I think Miranda lost her touch after Stealing Parker. Things I Can't Forget and Racing Savannah just weren't as good as the first two books in the Hundred Oaks series, and that makes me sad.

Racing Savannah is about a dirt poor girl, Savannah, who works for multi-millionaires, the Goodwins, on their estate. She is an exercise boy to begin with, then becomes their jockey. Savannah is great with horses, and her relationship with the Goodwins' "bratty" horse, Star, is adorable.

As one would expect, Savannah and Jack Goodwin, her teenage boss, lust after one another, but cannot be together because of their differences in status, yada yada yada.

For starters, I am happy this book finally got back to being sports-oriented. It felt like it matched the series more. I don't know a whole lot about horse racing, nor do I care to, but this book did a good job explaining everything that was going on and the importance of certain races, etc., so that you never felt lost.

Unfortunately, as I said above, this book just doesn't have the magic touch Catching Jordan and Stealing Parker did. The romance just wasn't as good as the first two. I mean, I eventually grew to like Jack, but he isn't a book boyfriend or anything. It wasn't that special. Though, I did like how Savannah made Jack work to get her back after that scene
Spoilerwhere she went down on him and professed her feelings, only to have him say they would have to be friends with benefits. Talk about a dick move.

This book, though it took only a couple days for me to read, felt super long. The pacing seemed to drag, and I wasn't engrossed enough in the story to feel like I absolutely had to read it at all times. I just...didn't care about it as much as I would have liked to.

There are two things I really loved about this book, the first being the horse Tennessee Star - Star for short. He was an adorable little horse and made me smile all the time. He reminded me of a super hyper puppy and I wish he was real, because I would love to know him. The second best thing about this book was how all the stories continued to intertwine and we got to see what is going on with the first three couples.
SpoilerWill and Parker got married, Matt and Kate are engaged, and Sam and Jordan are still going out. Sam and Jordan better get married in Breathe, Annie, Breathe or I'll be mad.
Racing Savannah takes place four years after the other three books, so it really gives us a good look into everyone else's future.

Racing Savannah had many flaws, but also had its perks. It wasn't the best of the Hundred Oaks series by any means, but it was a good, mindless romance, perfect for summer.

3.5 stars.
