Shakespeare and Company, New Edition by Sylvia Beach

informative slow-paced

3.25

Paris in the 1920s is one of my Roman Empires right now, so you can imagine how excited I was to go to Shakespeare and Company this year and get Sylvia Beach's book about the original Shakespeare and Company and read all about the writers of the Lost Generation who frequented that wonderful library and bookshop. But although it was interesting, it did put me in a small reading slump. It is fascinating how many great writers and artists Sylvia met but after 50 pages I stopped looking up every single one because there were just too many. After a while, every chapter seemed to be the same, all the stories merged into a singular one in my head.
It was great to get an intimate look into the history of Shakespeare and Company and especially the publishing of James Joyce's writings. But since I saw myself getting bored a lot while reading, I am kind of glad I finally finished this book now.
