Faces of Beth by Carver Pike

dark mysterious tense fast-paced

3.0

This was honestly a 5 star up until like the last 15% of the book. The character development, tension, horror aspects, everything was going so great but the climax and the final chapter were just... not good. Seriously massive spoilers:
I think it was interesting the way the author wrote the multiple personalities, but the killing of them and "curing her" was... iffy. I'm not super happy about it. The way the priest and Gore were talking at the end during the BBEG fight was cringey, and the "where are they now reel" made me roll my eyes. Don't even get me started on the surprise pregnancy even though she "shouldn't have been able to get pregnant.
With the setup of the story, I would have appreciated an ending that was gruesome and dismal. It was still great writing, I just feel a bit cheated by the ending. Don't come for me about this, but it's honestly the way I feel about Stephen King's writing. Great at writing horror, meh about writing endings.
