Hellboy, Vol. 3: The Chained Coffin and Others by Mike Mignola

4.0

Pretty awesome collection of odds and ends tales that take place between Hellboy's birth? summoning? incarnation?and the events of Seed of Destruction (at least I think). The dates bounce around quite a bit from the 1950s to the 80s and 90s. Some were rather thin, but I didn't find myself minding all that much. Still don't know what makes HB tick other than a fierce dislike of all things "destiny," but as I noted before, I'm kind of in it for the atmosphere. Playing through Bloodborne right now makes me want to pour on the gothic and the visual style of this series as well as its environs and rich mythological syncretism just feels right about now.
