Screw it. This is 5 stars. This book had no right being so emotional at the end, and it hits hard. This was a solid 4-4.25 stars up until the last 10-15%. The way Robbie Couch discusses grief is so relatable and very real. I won't spoil anything, but there is a scene at the end that had me feeling my own very real grief for my lost loved ones, and I was a mess. Therefore, 5 stars. The story was intriguing and kept me interested the entire time. There's an air of mystery around the study these kids are participating in. It was also interesting how the story was told. We start the story from River's POV one year after the passing of his best friend Dylan. But we also get the POV of Dylan during the events of that day up until the end. We know how his story ends from the beginning, but as we get more attached to his character, it makes that ending hit like a Mack truck. Overall, this was great, so interesting, and super emotional. I'm gonna need a fluffy rom com for a palate cleanser now.
