The Mother by Maxim Gorky

3.0

Well this was painstakingly hard to finish... as is typical of Russian literature at the peak of 1917’s revolution, you get introduced to 25 characters whose names and roles you’ll confuse all the time. You get the same vibe as in « Germinal » by Zola: let the proletariat arise! What I always find fascinating and important is to always read these books by taking yourself back to the socio-historical context, and it allows you to understand the motives behind the propangandish literature more easily.

This book could have been resumed in a couple words: Mother and son unite as they realize they need to unite workers against the rich. Very long, deserves a good 3/5.

Bought this book in a cute Polish library ;)
