Dude. It's like the Valdemar or Pern books, but instead of ponies or dragons, the lucky few get religious hookers. It's like Valdemar and Kushiel had a love child!
Throw in an actual relationship among the dudes in the book, relatively interesting dudes at that, and the homosexual subtext that is not entirely ignored (albeit totally subsumed once everyone's appropriate ReligiousHooker Solace-Giver shows up), and color me impressed. Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would.
