Scandal by Jayne Ann Krentz, Amanda Quick

2.0

This is the last of Amanda Quick's series of historical romances with one-word-title that I loyally devoured in the past 6 months, but it's one of her earliest books under this pseudonym and I can't quite like it. This must be the only AQ book that has no puzzle, mystery, or murder in it. It's very heavy on the domestic relationship between the heroine Emily and the hero Simon. They got married very early in the book, Simon acted like an asshole the entire time, obsessed with control and revenge while wanting to fuck her every time he broke her heart. Emily made you roll your eyes every second paragraph with her epic poetic transcendent language and her worship of Simon. The book's biggest plot seems to be one of Emily unknowingly working thru Simon's plan for revenge, slowly changing Simon's heart until he realised that he loved her too, from the start. Emily may be one of AQ's quirkiest heroines, and she's the best redeeming factor in this book, especially in those later chapters, when it is revealed that she's not as romantic as she chose to be. In the end, it's still a cosy romance with happy endings.
