Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata

3.5

This was such an interesting Mariana Zapata book, and though I had a couple issues with it, there were parts of it that I loved. The epistolary vibe was mostly fun, seeing the shift from the impersonal to friendship (even if it was a bit TMI at times). It then shifted gears to navigate meeting in person, and while I didn’t love the characters individually (they both had some components that were a bit frustrating to read) the relationship was pretty cute. I liked seeing them try to pretend to each other that they were only platonic friends. The ending was too abrupt for my taste, as I wish some of the intro epistolary portion had been streamlined and taken that time to focus on navigating an in person relationship in their everyday lives. Without that, the story felt almost incomplete (though it did make me want to reread From Lukov with Love). Even though a lot of this book focused on the mundane moments and was not incredibly dramatic, something about the Mariana Zapata slow burn manages to hit regardless. This one isn’t a new favorite of hers, but I did have a great time and want to continue reading more of her books. πŸ—£πŸ‘€πŸ‘©πŸ½πŸ”“πŸŒ₯️
