Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

adventurous challenging dark mysterious tense

4.5

To be honest, I loved this book except for one kinda big thing. The representation...but that will be towards the end of this review because I want to start on a more positive note.

I honestly don't think I've ever actually read any other sci-fi book but this seemed pretty good. I loved a lot of the concepts in it. I'm definitely gonna read the next book after that ending.

I'm kinda having trouble writing this review tbh because I listened to this as an audiobook and I genuinely can't spell so many things I want to write about. Also, for some reason the things I can spell that I want to write about I am forgetting the names of. 😭 Just know that I got almost totally good vibes from this and it was a really fun read.

Finally, time to get into the heavier stuff. I think the representation in this towards indigenous communities and black communities is at least slightly harmful. I would explain but those are just the vibes I got and I think that there are other people who could do a much better job at explaining. In addition, I've heard people describe this book as 'anti-black and anti-indigenous' which I don't really agree with. I honestly think that the author really just should have thought through what she was writing but I might be wrong since I honestly don't know much about the author besides that she wrote Divergent. Actually, I am a basic white girl so if anyone is wrong about something, then it's probably me.
