I enjoy Shady Hollow. This is my second time reading it, but I do find it a bit simple. I noticed specifically that Vera is still stuck on the red herring suspect when it’s obvious she should be assuming it’s the murderer after one final piece of evidence. This tends to be my issue with the series as a whole. The characters never seem to suspect the obvious culprit until the big villain monologue at the climax. I appreciate twists and turns, but I don’t love it that the characters seem so blind or naive. That said, this is a cozy book, which is why I read it twice.
