this was an absolutely fantastic read. the storytelling is so good and i love how the book had you figure some things out about the characters along the way. i really loved the back and forth between patsy’s life in america vs. tru’s life in jamaica. their experiences kind of echo one another so uniquely. i also really enjoyed that this book was set to be in the late 90s-early 2000s and seeing the challenges of immigration, communication, and queer liberation for Black people in america and the difficulties of completely starting from nothing.
also, i thought it was so interesting to include the fact that tru’s school got shipped regina’s (whitewashed and white savior-y) books. i’m curious as to why that detail was noted… maybe to show the connection patsy and tru both wanted but hid from one another?
