Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey

4.0

I won't lie, the first half was a little rough. But by the end, when I got more of a picture of what kind of story it was and of the characters, I was so obsessed. I wish I'd taken a video of my expressions while reading the finale. It was a wild ride.

Regarding characters, I went from hating Miller to loving him. I'm far more lukewarm on the crew of the Rocinante. They're all sort of boring and one note, with the exception of one James Holden, who I actively dislike and not even in the fun way. He's so obnoxiously righteous, and incredibly annoying. I appreciated that people took him to task about that, but even then, having him on screen so often was grating. I find him so irritating.

The world-building is the best part of the book by far. I'll keep reading the series for that setting, and for the writing that builds tension so perfectly.
