Trigger warnings are there for a big reason so make absolutely sure you've read them before you read the book itself.
I feel like I read this quite steadily, but honestly, it's just so slow?
Auren is a pretty dull protagonist to have to spend time with, she's obviously deep in her Stockholm syndrome, but she doesn't really have a personality beyond PTSD and worshipping Midas. I loathe so many of the characters in the book, literally all the men are disgusting (except maybe Sail but based on the themes of this book, I knew his purpose from line one) with little to no redeeming features.
Some positives however. The world seems thought out, the politics of the kingdoms and the fae world also have consideration to them, and the motives of the characters (except maybe Auren herself) are relatively clear.
What that doesn't change is how dragged out this all is and from other reviews I've seen, it really doesn't need to be for the series.
