Under the Dome by Stephen King

2.0

2.5 stars. The premise is a fascinating one, and it offers many possibilities. Unfortunately, my experience was one of constantly redesigning the story in my head even as I was reading, so I can't say it was an entirely successful read for me. If King hadn't opted for caricature as much as he did, some of the other struggles I had might have been more easily excused.

audiobook note: This would be a daunting task for any narrator, but I can't say that I was impressed with Raul Esparza's performance. His style for the core narration seems almost bored, and his voicing of the female characters is also problematic. To be fair, a book of this length does need to be moderated in order to sustain the length and number of players, but several times I was ready to give up and just read the print -- and it's rare for me to even think that once I've started in audio.
