Abaddon's Gate by James S.A. Corey

3.0

I found this installment of *The Expanse* series to be somewhat disappointing. While James S.A. Corey introduces a few new characters and offers a glimpse of the broader narrative, I felt the pacing and overall direction fell short of my expectations.

The first half of the book was engaging—I sped through it, intrigued by the mysteries and character dynamics. However, the second half dragged for me. It took nearly three weeks to finish as the story seemed to stall, primarily confined to a single ship. This singular setting limited the action and variety, making it feel repetitive.

Moreover, I found myself more invested in the familiar characters, while the newcomers didn't resonate with me, save for Anna, who I genuinely enjoyed. The ongoing protomolecule storyline, particularly with Miller, has lost its spark for me, and I’m left wanting more depth and exploration.

Overall, I see *Abaddon's Gate* as a necessary step to continue the series rather than a standout book in its own right. While it has its moments, it didn't quite deliver the excitement I was hoping for.
