Gutenberg's Apprentice by Alix Christie

4.0

I bought this book in Gutenberg Museum in Mainz after seeing a copy of Gutenberg’s Bible with my own eyes.
This thoughtfully researched book gives a complicated background of politics in Mainz in those years. There are some quite interesting comments on inventions and credits for them, and on mechanical vs handmade.
It is not an easy read though. In the author’s writing undeniably feels a hand of scholar, there is not a spark of humor in the whole book, it is mostly written in quite a dry manner. Nevertheless the book has its weird charm and some really interesting stuff to learn about.
