Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

5.0

My first reaction to the ending of this book is pure anger. I kind of knew it was coming because I read the descriptions for future Vampire Academy books and I heard rumors. But I am just really mad. Why Richelle? Why would you do this to me?

The only thing that keeps hanging me on is that I have a feeling it's going somewhere. I just have a feeling. I am hoping some good will come of this but if this series ends with Rose being utterly alone and her killing Dimitri because he's a Strigoi, I will literally throw this book across the room.

On the other hand, it gives me some insight on how exactly attached I am to these characters. I love Rose and Dimitri's love and I love them both. Her sarcastic and sassy humor, his mysterious personality that Rose has received glimpses of here and there. I am truly attached to these characters.

I am a bit disappointed in how selfish Lissa is at the end of the book and I'm even more disappointed that it seems that Rose is off to kill him. But I will read on. Normally I would give up on this because, let's face it, she's killing her hot lover off and what's left? I'm not that into Adrian even though he seems a nice enough guy.

As far as the rest of the book goes it was a great read, which is why I gave it five stars. It sucked me in like the first two books have and I am truly attached to the main characters. I particularly like Christian, Rose, and Dimitri. My favorite of them is probably actually Christian though. I love his sense of humor, not caring about what others think, but at the same time being a good friend. I also kind of like Adrian (but not for her lover). Lissa is a different story. I feel sort of like she's selfish for not letting Rose have a life. I know she's a good person, but I can just better relate to Rose being the underdog in life here.

Finally, I don't care what anyone else says, I'm really glad that Rose lost her virginity to Dimitri before he "left". Hopefully he'll be back in some way or another, but I'm glad that at least they were able to love each other in that way first.

But anyways, I will read on. I just keep thinking, please let this have a happy ending for Rose and Dimitri. It's looking pretty grim right now, but I just need that happy ending for them and I keep hoping she's not the kind of writer that gets a kick out of tragic endings - otherwise I wouldn't have started reading this to begin with! I just hope that Richelle is going somewhere with this and that that somewhere doesn't include killing off Dimitri from the series. I really do...
