Superman, Volume 2: Trial of the Super Sons, by Alejandro Sanchez, Wil Quintana, Patrick Gleason, Christian Alamy, Mick Gray, Doug Mahnke, Peter J. Tomasi, Trevor Scott, Jorge Jimenez, Jaime Mendoza, John Kalisz, Rob Leigh, Mark Morales

3.5

Superman Vol. 2's superfamily wholesomeness was fun to see. The highlight of this volume was probably the one-shot Our Town that saw the Kents go to the Hamilton Country Fair. The small-town coziness and low-stakes Superman hijinks were an absolute delight. Another highlight of this volume was Jon and Clark's father-son bonding. I get a kick out of seeing Clark mentor Jon and a few moments between the two in this volume tugged on the heartstrings.

This comic also saw the first meeting of the iconic duo of Damian Wayne and Jon Kent. I initially picked up this Superman run as a precursor to the Super Sons comic series and their first meeting was as entertaining as expected. Damian was a tad acerbic for my liking, but his and Jon's dynamic was fun overall and I'm sure he'll grow on me with time. The wacky shenanigans and Alfred's cutting dry humour made Jon's adventure with the Bat-family a fun time.

I will say the final two issues in the volume didn't hold my interest as much. This could be because Jon was notably absent so the family-centric wholesomeness I love in the series wasn't there. That's not to say the issues were bad, there were a few interesting characters, but it didn't hold a candle to the previous installments.

Regardless Superman Vol. 2 was a fun read and I loved getting wrapped up in more of Clark and his family's adventures.
