Stuff Matters: Exploring the Marvelous Materials That Shape Our Man-made World by Mark Miodownik

4.0

This is a great and fun overview of the peculiarities and intricacies of some of the common (and uncommon) materials around us covering such diverse topics as stainless steel, paper, concrete, aerogels, and of course chocolate. Each of these has properties that only a century or slightly more ago were beyond the contemporary understanding, and the author does a great job in explaining what makes them work or behave the way that they do. He also presents these materials in such a way that even if you already know most of the facts is still a fun and interesting read (or listen).
