South of Centre by Edie Ayala

I wrote South of Centre when I was still relatively new to Chile and everything was a novelty. Mostly I stood back and watched. I loved the eccentric characters, the quick sense of humor, the cemetery culture, the stories that fishermen told about UFOs, the ghost stories from the desert highlands. But most of all I was amazed by the parallel stories and the things that people never, ever reveal. So this book is a story about people with jealously-guarded secrets.
