The Aeneid by Virgil

1.0

Normally I don’t mind assigned books but HEAVENS this one killed me a bit. Aeneas is so passive?? He rarely takes responsibility for his own fate and instead relies on the apparently unquestionable will of the gods. His abandonment of Dido in book four (somewhere around there anyway) made me lose interest almost immediately. Why did he run from a potentially much BETTER fate than the ones the gods prescribed??? This book. Ugh. It’s written well enough and I respect Virgil’s inclusion of Celtic culture and subtle disses to the emperor (which are in fact debatable disses but I choose to believe Virgil has something resembling a spine) but my god Aeneas was so unlikable.
