The Untold Stories by Erin Hunter

3.0

I wanted to like this book, I really did- especially because I liked the other novellas so far but this one … was just meh - the only one I've liked was Cloudstar's journey - and the journey isn't even there.

HOLLYLEAF'S STORY
I don't like Hollyleaf, I don't care about Hollyleaf- I wish that this book was about Fallen Leaves instead - he was such an interesting character that's mainly there in the background - though I did like the mini story about a fox- Hollyleaf saving a fox cub and said fox cub attacking her later because it forgot how she smelled and that she saved his life. It also gets slightly repetitive because it's mainly happening in one place- the tunnels - and there is a lot of just patrolling the tunnels and hunting - but since Hollyleaf was so unlikeable to me it ruined the story for me.

MISYSTAR'S OMEN
Man... I wish that anyone but Mistystar became a leader- the beginning was sombre and sad- Leopardstar dies, apologizes to Mistystar for killing her brother and saying that she wishes she was Mistystar's mom because she loved her like her own kit and is instantly forgiven even though she did some horrible things but okay- then we get to the story - Mistystar gets her nine lives, Mistystar sees that Mothwing is not in Star clan with her - Mistystar decides that since Mothwing is an atheist she shouldn't be a medicine cat because she needs to believe in Star clan to be a good healer…. despite being a competent medicine cat that has been healing her clanmates for moons at this point - but yes, the entire novella felt boring and dragging, Mistystar is unlikable, it takes her brother and an omen and her son to almost die before she finally gets to her senses and starts trusting her old friend again - and yes, she mentions over and over that Mothwing is her old friend since she was her mentor before she became a medicine cat- but she doesn't show that at all, I guess that the moral of the story is that just because someone close to you doesn't believe in same things you do you shouldn't question your faith but the main character is unlikable, the story gets repetitive and drags on when it's not needed and it was just … so boring and I wanted to scream at Mistystar for making so many dumb decisions in a row.

CLOUDSTAR'S JOURNEY
This one was the only one I liked out of the three. It's about Cloudstar and his clan, the leader of Sky clan when they were banished from the forest. We meet him and his clanmates living peacefully in the forest when the monsters and humans come and humans start destroying the forest in order to build houses- Sky clan is ran out of their territory when they ask for help at the gathering and everyone gets mad because they can't possibly spare the territory, a few medicine cats mildly protest but are ignored, then one mentions that there are four trees which must mean that there should only be four clans in the forest and besides, if Star clan wanted all five clans to live in the forest together they'd cover the moon with clouds, since they didn't do that they should totally banish Sky clan for reasons (I have no idea why Star clan didn't intervene there or why they allowed that to happen). There was also a part where Cloudstar has a dream where he meets previous leaders in Sky clan and they tell him that Sky clan is strong and they shall stay in the forest forever - and that only serves one purpose- to make Cloudstar more stubborn and try staying in his territory for longer than he should have. He had to leave his mate and small kits behind and he doesn't see them again until Sky clan is rebuilt many, many, many moons - years later when Firestar rebuilds it in Firestar's quest and he meets them in Star clan - I wish that his mate or at least kits followed him and met him at the gorge where they lived- that would've felt so much more satisfying- and the journey in the title isn't even there because the novella ends before they even start. Overall, best out of three but not the best out of all the novellas I've read so far.
