The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
3.0
honestly this book wasn’t bad at all. I was a bit put off by the way the characters are outlined in the beginning, especially lisbeth. it seemed tropey and described things that didn’t need to be described.
I’m coming to realize that novels written by journalists aren’t usually my thing based purely on the writing style, which I know is not always a deal breaker for people. I prefer well placed details and a better grasp of the art of story telling.
I was also a bit surprised about the ending, and by that I mean I was surprised by my overall lack of surprise. let me explain. maybe it was the good reviews, but I expected a story that ended in a more shocking way. I kept waiting for something to really shake me, but sex crimes and australia didn’t really surprise me or make me question anything I already knew.
now for the good things. I guess every other element of the story that I haven’t already mentioned was good. I didn’t think it was as slow paced as some other people seem to have thought. I was engaged and I wanted to know what happened at the end. I also liked most of the main characters and their relationships.
I would honestly consider reading the second book of the series based purely on a need to find out what happens to lisbeth. so in that sense, larsson did a good job.
