Misogynation: The True Scale of Sexism by Laura Bates

challenging dark informative reflective sad fast-paced
This book made me so angry. Angry at the abuse, harassment and sexual assault women have to face on a daily basis. Angry that women are blamed for the awful things that happen to them at the hands of men. Angry at the UK government and police force for not doing more to safeguard women.

Some statistics that stuck with me when reading this:
Two women in the UK are murdered by men every week
1 in 4 women in the UK will experience domestic abuse/violence in their lifetime
90% of women who are raped by men know their rapist

This isn't meant to be an easy read. It's meant to be a book that makes you angry and makes you want to take up the fight and do more to challenge misogyny. And it's certainly done that for to me.

One thing I would have liked to see more of in this book was inclusion of trans and non-binary folks and women of colour. Their experiences are mentioned a few times so they're not excluded, I just thought there could have been more time spent on their stories.
