The Science of Women in Horror: The Special Effects, Stunts, and True Stories Behind Your Favorite Fright Films by Kelly Florence, Meg Hafdahl

4.0

Perhaps a better name would be “The Social Science of Women in Horror.” I really enjoyed this book. I think parts were too short and could have been elaborated on, but overall it was an interesting read that talked about a wide array of tropes, misconceptions, and horror movies. The only chapter I didn’t care for was the one on ghostbusters, because, as someone who actually watched that movie, the remake was not good. It wasn’t sabotaged by a male-centered gaze. That movie was just bad.
