The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

4.0

This book gave me strong In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware vibes. It follows the same premise: a group of friends go on a trip together and one of them dies. I liked this book a bit more for many reasons. The characters were complex and had interesting back stories. I liked that the didn't give away who was actually murdered until the end. You could keep guessing and trying to figure out who was murdered. I also like that the narrators of the book were most of the women and just one male. It was intriguing to get the different points of view.

The best part of this book? That would be the major reveals toward the end. I won't give anything away but I really enjoyed the way Foley crafted her reveals. They were shocking and I never saw them coming. At least most of them. Around the halfway point I had a pretty good guess of who I thought was killed. But I never saw who committed the crime and what had happened before it coming.

Overall this was a well crafted novel. A wonderful debut by a really great writer!

I definitely recommend this novel for thriller lovers. Even more if you are a Ruth Ware fan. They have similar writing styles and the stories, though similar, are definitely different.
