The Women by Kristin Hannah
5.0
5 undeniable stars
Ok! We’ve started our year off with a banger. This story swept me away. Totally engrossed.
As I’ve mentioned I don’t do well with war stories and I think the Vietnam War is particularly difficult because it, unknowing to me, shaped my childhood.
This book caused me to do a deep dive while reading. I had to take breaks as the book was sometimes emotionally hard to stomach. But of course, me being a sucker for punishment, I watched Ken Burns’ spectacular documentary, The Vietnam War.
Not that Hannah needed any help pulling me into her story, but my watch just made her story come alive even more. This was a very engaging first read. I appreciate the authors extensive research and even more so her representation. As the Author so poignantly stated, ‘We were there.’ And I couldn’t help but smile and with great satisfaction reply, ‘So were we…’.
An amazing novel! An incredible first read of the year. I can only hope my other reads are as satisfying.
