The Heart Broke In by James Meek

3.0

I am so torn about this book. On the one hand, I found the scientists utterly compelling and delicious to read about. But the book doesn't quite belong to them. The contemptible "main" character also doesn't "get his" in the end, and I understand that life works that way. The evil asshole sometimes comes out ahead. But I live that real life every day, and I need my fiction to be something else than a reflection of real life. This book didn't get there, because it was too nuanced. That said, it was beautifully written and again, I did love Bec and Alex and Harry.
